Special Interest Group on Africa – Purpose

To date interculturalists in SIETAR Europa have largely ignored Africa. Often, when it is mentioned at all, the complexities are ignored or oversimplified. This SIG has a vision of a future where, in SIETAR Europa and in other intercultural forums, not only is there heightened awareness of Africa as a topic but that the topic would have equal status with other regions of the world. Therefore the two main purposes of the SIG on Africa are

Increase awareness:

To counter the low awareness in SIETAR Europa of the complexity of African culture, the SIG will increase awareness in SIETAR Europa of Africa in all its wonderful complexity

Make Material available:

What material there is on African cultures is not readily visible. The SIG will create a repository of available material and, working with suitable partners, identify possible opportunities for research
